Shekou is a district in the city of Shenzhen which itself is made of several districts possessing their own singular, very particular character. Shekou, meaning "snake's mouth" in Mandarin, is located in the western part of huge metropolis that is Shenzhen. Sitting by the ocean, Shekou is also a main port not only for the common civilian wishing to commute to Hong Kong or Macau, but also the source of distribution for many containers that travel long distances around the globe. Shekou is also home to many foreigners in Shenzhen, but I can still guarantee you there aren't as many foreigners here as one may find in Beijing. There are plenty of bars, nightclubs, western restaurants and other not-so-common shops such as 'Decathlon'. I went out on my bicycle (yes, I bought my 9th bicycle in China, I thought I'd give Shenzhen at least one chance) and took a few pictures of Haishang Shijie or 'Sea World' (no, not the famous Seaworld Aquarium, the name is just a coincidence nobody seemed to notice). Sea World, which is actually visible from my room, is a pedestrian street with restaurants, occasional street performers, tasty (and expensive) foreign food, and other attractions which definitely carry you out of a China for a few moments. I will take more shots in the future as it was getting dark when I went out today, but here's a sample of what it looks like.
